Saturday, March 1, 2008 The UC Santa Cruz Expanding Your Horizons Conference centers around a series of hands-on workshops, which focus on using aspects of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Workshops may hold up to fifteen girls and last an hour and thirty minutes; the last ten minutes are reserved for the students to fill out an evaluation form. The EYH day begins with check-in between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Directions to the Baskin Engineering building, where both presenters and attendees check-in, will be sent with the finalized EYH brochure for 2008. This information is also available on the EYH website (follow link at left). The morning workshops start at 10:00 a.m. This gives you and your team members time to set up your activities and props while the students are attending the opening plenary session. Beverages and snacks are available at check-in. Lunch is provided. Lunch is also an excellent time to interact in a more casual setting with workshop leaders. University volunteers from the ACE program and other departments will be assigned to your workshop. They will: show you where your classroom is located; may assist you with initial unloading and set-up prior to the opening session; will direct students to your workshop from the opening session and from lunch; and will be in charge of passing out the evaluation forms ten minutes before the end of each workshop and collecting these forms.
