What is an EYH-GROW Ambassador and how do I apply?

As an EYH-GROW Ambassador, you will learn valuable leadership skills as you:

  • Encourage your friends to attend the EYH Conference in 2009.
  • Share the EYH website (http://eyh.ucsc.edu) with your teachers and encourage them to use GROW presenters in their classrooms.
  • Host the GROW presenters who come to your school to give a workshop.
  • Develop science activity kits with undergraduate and graduate students at UC Santa Cruz. These kits may be used by GROW presenters.

As our way of saying thanks, we invite you to participate in hands-on lab and field activities with science professionals or graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Supper with Scientists at Seagate: Visit the "clean room" lab at the Disk Drive facility in Scotts Valley and talk with female scientists and engineers over supper.
  • S. Capadesâ into Personal Care: An exciting daylong workshop where you will create non-petroleum based body lotions (to keep!)
    Others to be announced.

I am qualified to be an EYH-GROW Ambassador if I am …

  • in 8th – 12th grade in Santa Cruz County.
  • interested in expanding my horizons in science and mathematics.

Since I am qualified, I need to …

  1. Complete the application materials.
  2. Ask a teacher or mentor who can comment on your leadership ability and interest in math and science to complete the recommendation form. The recommendation can be sent separately or given to you to include with your application materials.

Spaces are limited. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

GROW would like to thank both the national and local UCSC branches of the non-profit organization Expanding Your Horizons. They have provided financial and logistical support for GROW.
